OurWedding asked her about the hottest hair looks for the bridal season ahead.
What are the biggest bridal hair trends for spring/summer 2017?
Bridal hair remains relaxed during the 2017 wedding season. Low, unstructured chignons complement soft, flowing dresses with relaxed curls and texture still featuring heavily. These are accented beautifully with floral crowns, sprays of gypsophila or delicate hair vines.
The chignon is making its comeback in 2017, but with a less formal and more bohemian makeover. One way to modernise it is to use different kinds of plaits. Twists, plaits and braids create an interesting change for the modern bride, and can be dressed with artificial and vintage flowers or metallic embellishments.
Overall, weddings are becoming less formal when it comes to hair, drawing inspiration from catwalk and red carpet looks, rather than the traditional bridal barrel curls and over-sprayed styles.
How should a bride/guest go about choosing a hair style that suits their face?
Choosing the right hairstyle for your face shape is so important, you have to know how to work with your features. For example, if you have a harder, more angular face you need to go for something soft and feminine - but if you have soft features you can crank up the style a bit and go for something a little wackier!
What can a bride do to ensure her hair is in top shape in the run-up to their wedding?
Start repairing from the inside out. Experts believe that a diet filled with Vitamin B helps bring out your hair's natural shine (dull hair is actually a symptom of a Vitamin B deficiency). Foods like fish, nuts, and eggs will give you a good head start. On the outside, an invigorating scalp massage and deep conditioning treatment, about four weeks prior to the event, not only feels good, but stimulates the hair follicles and adds body.
What are the biggest hair no-nos if you’re preparing for a wedding?
Last-minute dye jobs! Switching up or fine-tuning the colour of your hair sounds tempting, but it can be a nightmare when you're just days away from walking down the aisle. If you're looking to switch the colour up or touch-up your roots, consider colouring a week before.
While it may seem natural to shampoo on the day of the wedding, I always tell brides wash their hair the day before. Washing your hair the day before the wedding with a restorative hair treatment adds shine, volume, and life to your hair. I recommend the Hydrate Restore for the big day because it is very light and will make your colour even more vivid.
Finally, avoid trying something completely different. Your wedding day is not the time to experiment with a length, style, or texture you've never worn before. You should aim to look like the best version of yourself, not a brand-new person.
We spoke a lot about hair trends for women - are there any grooming trends for men taking centre stage?
One of the most in-demand styles for men is the side-part hair style – it’s a classic haircut that just looks good. Our version keeps the traditional proportions but has some texture that updates it for 2017. Then there’s the side-part mid-fade haircut, which lends itself to a wide variety of forms and textures. This cool version is pretty much a pomp turned to one side with a high volume comb over and mid fade.
Are there any products you would recommend to keep the salon-fresh look for as long as possible?
The dry shampoo and conditioner from the Kardashian range freshen up your hair until your next visit to the salon. Chi’s Infra Texture prevents frizz, while the Macadamia deep repair mask improves the healthy shine and elasticity of your hair. Watermans’ Grow Me and Condition Me are also great for those looking to get longer and thicker hair.
