Alternative Ideas for a Wedding Guestbook
A guest book is a memento that the couple gets to keep, filled with sweet messages, well wishes and words of wisdom by attending guests. However, the term ‘book’ has taken on many forms, and couples are opting for a range of unique alternatives to the traditional book format. If you’re short of alternatives, here are some ideas.
PRETTY PIÑATA
Turn up the fun factor at your wedding with a piñata! There’ll be an opening at the top of the piñata, for your guests to deposit heartfelt messages in. You can choose to smash it open on the day of your wedding or, even better, on your one year anniversary. It’s a perfect way to relive beautiful memories.
MESSAGE IN A BOTTLE
Source a large, glass bottle and provide ready, evenly cut pieces of paper, string and pens for guests to write a thoughtful message on, then tie up and post inside the jar like a little scroll. The effect is both visually effective and personal, as people might feel inclined to share a special memory, heartfelt message or deep thought with you, that you can open up gradually over time after your wedding day draws to a close.
PHOTO FINISH
Polaroids are having a moment right now and are a great way of capturing a memory. Just like a photo booth set-up, have guests take a picture of themselves using a polaroid camera and have them stick it in a photo album accompanied by a thoughtful message. You can’t imagine how much fun you’ll have flipping through that album a number of years down the line.
SIGN THE MONOGRAM
Buy a wooden letter or symbol (the first letter of your surname would be most fitting but you can opt for something else that is meaningful to the two of you) and have guests sign the letter with different coloured pens. The monogram will become a nostalgic piece of décor in your home, either as bookends or mounted on a wall.
TREE OF MEMORIES
Custom order your own wooden guestbook featuring a tree with individual leaves for every guest to sign on. The board may be personalised with your engraved names and wedding date. The tree may be framed and hung up in your home once your wedding is over, and makes for a visually impactful piece as well as a lovely token of your big day.
FUN & GAMES
If you and your significant other enjoy a good board game or puzzle, using a Jenga, puzzle or Scrabble set as a guestbook is a great way of reliving your wedding day each time you feel like a round or two. Have your guests sign individual Jenga blocks so that you can put together your own set once the wedding is over, or a scrabble board with your names spelled out using the tiles.
