If you’ve decided to go ahead with your wedding ceremony but postponed the wedding reception to a later date due to the ongoing COVID-19 crisis, here’s some good news: you and your spouse will still be eligible for the Government marriage grant.
In a notice published in the Government Gazette, couples who get married on one date but have their wedding reception at a later date – seeing as mass gatherings have been banned to contain the spread of the virus – will be able to claim the grant based on the later date.
Before the outbreak, the marriage grant, which is calculated on a pro-rata basis and offered to anyone getting married or entering a civil union, is made available for up to six months after the wedding.
Extending the timeframe for claiming the grant gives couples some peace of mind that they’ll still get Government financial assistance once their wedding reception is held, up to a maximum of €2,000.
