Everyone says that their wedding day goes by in a flash – and they’re absolutely right. With a healthy dose of excitement, some nerves and a whole lot of anticipation for the day ahead, you’ll need to ensure your fuel tank is well stocked until you’re able to get your hands on some food at the reception. Here are some healthy ideas to keep the bride and bridal party going on THAT exciting morning.

Oats & Berries

Oats are a great source of energy and will keep you feeling satisfied for a few hours, while berries are full of water and fibre, which should prevent bloating. The key to this breakfast is portion size – if you eat too much of it, it will leave you feeling stuffed and lethargic.

Eggs on toast

Eggs are a perfect breakfast choice for a variety of reasons – they’re tasty, satisfying and very healthy too. Eat them scrambled, poached, boiled or fried, and place them on slices of toasted bread for a little crunch factor, spread with a delicious guacamole base.

Bagel breakfast

Bagels are just the right size for breakfast and an incredibly versatile option too. Set up a table at your getting-ready base with a selection of bagels, sweet and savoury toppings and enjoy creating your own with your bridal party in between hair and make-up.

Satisfying smoothie

If you’re after something a little lighter and liquid in form, a smoothie ticks all the boxes. Opt for fruits that you know will not bloat you (if necessary, test a recipe in the run up to the wedding), such as all kinds of berries, kiwi, apple, nuts and seeds, and keep the portion reasonable here too to avoid feeling full.

Stack of Pancakes

Not the healthies of options, but delicious and fun to eat with friends nonetheless. To minimise the damage, opt for toppings that aren’t packed with sugars to avoid spiking your energy just before the wedding, leaving you tired and sleepy a few hours later. And instead of using flour for the batter, consider a banana-based recipe instead.

Plenty of water

Staying hydrated is crucial no matter what breakfast you opt for – it will keep your energy up, your skin looking fresh, your immune system healthy, and cleansed for the day ahead. Chop up some mint, basil, lemon or lime wedges too for a dash of flavour if you wish, and prepare separate jugs with different infusions for you and your clan to enjoy.
