Despite some measures being eased from next Monday, churches are to remain closed for the time being.

This was revealed during today's COVID-19 press briefing with Prof. Charmaine Gauci, where she warned that reopening churches would not be beneficial for public health at the time being: "We're not yet ready to reopen churches," she insisted.

Malta's churches have been closed since 23rd March, forcing many weddings to be postponed. Functions such as daily masses and other prayer gatherings are currently being streamed on TV and social media.

The situation will be revisited in three weeks' time, whereby another announcement - regarding further measures being lifted, or reinstating old measures depending on the COVID-19 situation in Malta - is expected.
