Newly-engaged couples kick off their wedding planning process with lots of enthusiasm and ideas, until they hit a wall with finding something specific for their big day, after which stress and frustration ensues. Finding the right venue generally falls under the stress-inducing category, and with good reason.

There’s no shortage of wedding venues in Malta and Gozo – quite the contrary, in fact, as lots of establishments are now opening their doors for wedding events too besides their day-to-day operations, offering local and foreign couples getting married in Malta more than a handful of options. One of those options is a vineyard wedding – can you picture anything more romantic?!

Getting married among the vines is still picking up steam locally. And while there aren’t many options to choose from, we’re definitely glad that a few vineyards do open their doors for wedding celebrations. Here are the top three.

Maria Rosa Wine Estate

Located in Attard, under majestic Mdina, Maria Rosa Wine Estate is named after the wife of Joseph Fenech, who established the boutique winery in 2006, fulfilling a lifelong dream. The estate sprawls across 4.2 hectares of agricultural land, and offers some stunning photo ops against rows of vines. The outdoor terrace that glows with the setting sun in the evening is a perfect spot for sharing a first dance as newlyweds, and subsequently dancing the night away.

Ta’ Mena Estate Gozo

The only winery in Gozo that’s available for weddings, Ta’ Mena offers gorgeous views of Mgarr Harbour and staggering views of approximately 25 hectares of pristine land. Ta Mena Estate was founded by Carmela Spiteri, locally known as Mena, who cultivated the land along with her husband, until she passed away in 1986, after which her family took over its expansion, care and maintenance. This estate in Xaghra is a perfect location steeped in Gozitan culture and tradition, and couldn’t possibly be any more idyllic and picturesque.

Meridiana Wine Estate

Whether it’s a civil ceremony with the vineyards as a backdrop, a seated wedding reception or standing function, Meridiana Wine Estate in Ta’ Qali can adapt to suit many a couple’s requirements in a serene setting. The vineyards are accompanied by vast terraces which set the romantic tone of the venue which, together with the winery building, cellars and passage ways, comprise 19 hectares of gorgeous, green land. We can’t think of a better location for a spring wedding.
