The Dos and Don’ts of Honeymoon Packing
Does anyone actually enjoy packing? I highly doubt it, but it’s a necessary hurdle you have to overcome before jetting off to your fabulous honeymoon. Here’s a list of dos and don’ts, as well as tips on what to pack and what to leave behind.
Make photocopies of IDs, passports and credit cards
Losing a valuable document is one of the most stressful and aggravating things that can happen on holiday. Having copies of important items will save you some of the worry until things get sorted out. And make sure all your relevant documents are current and updated to avoid any nasty surprises at the last minute.
Pack for variable weather
Even if you’re holidaying in a country with a very warm climate, the temperature can drop uncomfortably as soon as the sun sets and you don’t want to spend your romantic sunset dinners shivering and looking forward to a hot bath. Pack some items of clothing you can layer over flimsier outfits, such as a cardigan or a light jacket.
Always be appropriately dressed
Dressing casually is one of the perks of being on your honeymoon, but it’s always good to have at least one smart dress, jacket and shoe combo, in case you’re going somewhere that requires a slightly more elevated dress code. As is the case for the variable weather, plan for a range of potential situations.
Don’t overpack
If you’re staying in a hotel, your room will probably come equipped with a wide range of facilities, from hair dryers to coffee-makers, saving you the space and hassle of trying to fit everything into one suitcase. Call ahead of time or visit your lodging’s website to see what amenities are available, and which ones you need to take with you.
Ask someone who’s already been there
If you know someone who’s already been to the place you’re visiting, it doesn’t hurt to ask them if there’s anything you shouldn’t skimp on packing. You could even check out online message boards such as TripAdvisor, which have lots of contributions from seasoned travellers.
