Malta & Gozo – An Idyllic Choice for a Destination Wedding

Industry experts explain why the Maltese islands really are the perfect place for a stunning destination wedding.

Destination weddings are all the rage worldwide and the Maltese islands attract their fair share of foreign couples to exchange their ‘I dos’. In fact, statistics show that around 500 foreign couples now head to Malta each year to tie the knot, and that number is growing annually. As a result, the islands have become completely geared up to the kinds of weddings that foreigners may want to have, and the ways to really showcase the best that the island has to offer. Here’s what the experts had to say:

Patricia Falzon, Perfect Weddings

“The foreign couples I work with are usually drawn to three main aspects here: sun, sea and history. We have a good climate, friendly people and some lovely venues. All of that provides a really dynamic combination for a destination wedding. I really believe that both Malta and Gozo have proved themselves as brilliant wedding destinations, and your wonderful wedding could be next!”

Chrystelle Doublesin, Phoenicia Hotel, Valletta

“Malta is a great-value destination for weddings because you can have an extravagant wedding for less than half the average price of weddings in other parts of the world. You get a five-star stay with all the wedding works, plus your flights and accommodation, and you will still probably have enough money left over for the honeymoon! Plus, a destination wedding gives you the opportunity to make the fun last longer, as you can really enjoy the time you have with your closet friends and family. It becomes a time in your life that you will never forget.”

Veronica Zammit Tabona, Osborne Caterers & Villa Arrigo

“We have come to understand what overseas couples are looking for when they plan a destination wedding here. It’s often important for them to host their family and friends for a ceremony, aperitifs and dinner, followed by dancing, so villas are regularly the top choice.”

Sarah Young, Sarah Young Wedding Planner

“Couples love to come to Malta and extend their celebrations way beyond their day, and to have a special few days, or even a week, with family and friends. The island has so much to offer and we can really tailor everything from the venue to the catering to suit the requests of each couple. Malta is very versatile and many aspects work out much cheaper than getting married in the UK or other parts of the world.”

Marvik Borg & Anna Spiteri Borg, Malta Event Design and Gozo Break Ltd

“We’ve been in the business for some time now and know exactly what our clients love about Gozo. There’s the amazing backdrops, the relaxed family-friendly ambience and the fascinating history. The island’s small size makes it easy for people to get around and for friends and family to stay close to one another in self-catering villas or houses of character, and there’s also a very good range of hotels and other venues to choose from.”
