Reportedly, the IVF service offered at Mater Dei, as well as services done in private hospitals, has come to a halt amid the Coronavirus pandemic. Earlier this week, Prof Yves Muscat Baron (head of Mater Dei’s OBGYN department) advised women to avoid getting pregnant during this turbulent time.

Dr Mark Sant, head of Mater Dei’s reproduction clinic, told TVM that the clinic didn’t close all of a sudden but allowed for certain cycles to finish a certain stage.

He explained that the new cases were stopped while others that had already begun the cycle had their embryos frozen instead of being transferred to the uterus. This way new pregnancies were avoided but the embryos can still be transferred at a later stage once the clinic reopens.
