Bridal Party Dresses: Long or Short?

Haven’t made up your mind on whether you’d like your girls to wear long or short dresses on your big day? Worry not, OurWedding is here to help! Here are some factors to consider before making your choice.

DRESS CODE

Your wedding dress code is a great place to start. While it used to determine the length of your bridesmaids' dresses in the past, nowadays rules have relaxed and anything goes, but your dress code could still work as a great starting point. If you’re after a formal affair, long dresses can help set the tone, but so can a cocktail length, if done well. The same can be said for a more casual nuptials. While your mind may instantly go to short, floaty dresses, maxi dresses in a billowing fabric can read equally chic and relaxed – the trick is in the choice of fabric.

SHOES

Are your bridal party’s shoe choice a carefully considered one that will make a statement at your wedding? If so, they can help dictate dress length. If your reception is at the beach or on a lawn, pretty flats are advisable, and these can look great with a maxi dress. If however, your bridal party are wearing statement shoes, you’ll want them to be seen, making a knee-length dress the clear winner.

SEASON

Your choice of dress length and fabric should also be dictated by the season. If it’s summer time, your girls are likely to get hot and bothered in long stuffy dresses, while in colder temperatures, they’d certainly be more comfortable with a little more coverage, or a sturdier fabric that will help beat the chill.
