Top Travel Destinations of 2017

Planning your honeymoon or a romantic getaway with your partner, but not quite sure where to go? Don’t fret, we’ve trawled the best travel platforms to bring you the top travel destinations of 2017 – you’re welcome!


1. BELGRADE

Serbia has really come into its own in the last few years, and following the end of the Yugoslav wars, what were once graffiti covered neighbourhoods are now teeming with trendy bars and restaurants. Indulge in local morsels like ćevapcici, stuffed somborka peppers, kebabs and tapas on your visit, and make sure to wash them down with a pint or two – with 37 breweries in Belgrade alone, the craft-beer scene is flourishing here!

2. CANADA

Dishy Prime Minister Justin Trudeau isn’t Canada’s only draw – with its dynamic cities and impressive reputation for inclusiveness and politeness, 2017 marks 150 years since Canada’s confederation, and the celebrations surrounding this occasion are sure to make it an exciting destination this year. Meanwhile, the weak Canadian dollar is pushing down prices, so you’ll have plenty to spend on sampling the celebrated local cuisine!

3. COLOMBIA

The dust has cleared following turbulent years of civil war in this vibrant country, and now that it’s safer for travellers to visit, it’s certainly worth doing so for its mix of vibrant culture, nature and hospitality. This South American jewel will also receive a visit from Pope Francis this year, which will mark its first papal visit in 30 years.

4. HONOLULU

Hawaii’s capital is on its way to becoming an amazing cultural powerhouse this year, as it gears up to host its first Biennial. If you’re heading there between March and May, don’t miss the myriad installations, panel discussions and performances which will be held in Honolulu, at some of its most interesting sites including Foster Botanical Garden, City Hall and Chinatown... oh and obviously, there’s those beaches.

5. FINLAND

2017 marks Finland’s centenary anniversary since gaining independence, and plans are in place to celebrate with gusto! Visitors to Finland this year can will be treated to a multitude of concerts, culinary and cultural experiences, not to mention the stunning new attraction that is its new national park – an 11,000-hectare area in Hossa teeming with pine forests and scenic rivers.

6. JERUSALEM

Stepping out of its pilgrimage area image, Jerusalem has steadily come to be known as a culinary destination that will delight foodies from across the globe. Starting from the sprawling Mahane Yehuda Market, which features numerous food stalls to tempt your taste buds throughout the day, Jerusalem is also home to a number of fantastic restaurants serving up Jewish and Middle Eastern cuisine.

7. NEPAL

Despite the earthquakes that shook this area to its core in 2015, Nepal has impressively retained its strength as a destination worthy of visiting in 2017. Its famed trekking trails and numerous temples escaped unharmed, leaving lots for the traveller to soak in, and a journey here this year will contribute much-needed funds to the rebuilding of some of Nepal’s lost monuments and infrastructure – certainly a boost for the conscience!

8. BERMUDA

Fans of sailing would do well to head to Bermuda this year. Located 1050km off the coast of North Carolina, this picturesque island will host the historic America’s Cup sailing race in June this year, and its temperate climates and favourable winds make it the perfect location for it… not to mention an ideal destination for your honeymoon.

9. MYANMAR

Things are on the up for Myanmar (or Burma), with the election of the first civilian government in half a century. This is not to say that the problems of the past have suddenly disappeared, but it’s a sure-fire step in the right direction, and travellers this year are taking notice. This might not be everyone’s cup of tea, but if you’re not put off by a few difficulties of travel, you’ll soon be delighting in the sounds of monastery bells and chanting monks.

10. ETHIOPIA

If you’re looking for an exotic location for your next trip or honeymoon, it doesn’t get much more exotic than Ethiopia. View the wildlife as your trek through the Simien Mountains, climb up a remote cliff face in Tigray to witness a unique church carved into the rock, or take a boat across the quiet waters of Lake Tana for a visit to the ancient monastery – the diverse landscape will astound you.
