On 22nd January 1901, one of the most well-known monarchs of the British royal family passed away. Queen Victoria died 120 years ago today, aged 81, at Osborne House on the Isle of Wight.

According to a post by Kensington Palace, the infamous queen was born and raised in that very same palace. “It was here in 1837 that Victoria learnt that she had become Queen,” the post shared. “She reigned for the next 63 years, which makes her the second longest-reigning monarch in British history, surpassed only by our current Queen Elizabeth II.”

The post also shared an 1899 photo featuring Victoria and her three direct descendents who would eventually succeed her on the throne. There were her son Edward, later Edward VII (1901-1910), featured behind her on the right. Behind her on the left is her grandson Prince George, later George V (1910-1936). Her great-grandson Prince Edward of York stands by her side. He would go on to reign briefly after the passing of his father in 1936, but abdicated soon after. His brother, George VI (Queen Elizabeth II’s father) reigned instead until his death.
