Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have welcomed a baby boy today, who weighs a healthy 7lbs. 3oz.

The couple announced the news on Instagram. “We are pleased to announce that Their Royal Highnesses The Duke and Duchess of Sussex welcomed their firstborn child in the early morning on May 6th, 2019. Their Royal Highnesses’ son weighs 7lbs. 3oz.”

“The Duchess and baby are both healthy and well, and the couple thank members of the public for their shared excitement and support during this very special time in their lives. More details will be shared in the forthcoming days.”

Prince Harry also informed reporters shortly after the birth, visibly beaming with excitement.

Meghan Markle, 37, went into labour early this morning, and was understood to be around a week over her due date. The American royal, however, had plenty of support with Prince Harry and her mother, or rather grandmother, Doria Ragland by her side at Frogmore Cottage, their new home in Windsor, which is where she is believed to have had her child.

As the youngest member of the British royal family, Baby Sussex will be seventh in line to the throne, behind the Prince of Wales, the Duke of Cambridge and his children – Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis – and the Duke of Sussex.
