We may have become teary-eyed at the sight of Megan Markle walking down the aisle a few months ago (and green with envy when we saw Amal Clooney in THAT dress with THAT husband), but this weekend’s royal wedding may be the one which will truly make history: Lord Ivar Mountbatten, the Queen’s cousin and the great-nephew of Lord Mountbatten (prominently featured in the TV series The Crown), married his long-time partner, James Coyle this weekend.
The couple exchanged vows in front of 60 guests in a private chapel in Bridwell Park, a wedding venue in Uffculme, England. They wore matching velvet blazers, with Lord Ivar wearing green and James wearing navy blue. And, the happy groom couldn’t help posting a shot on Instagram to mark the occasion, exclaiming “Well, we did it finally!” and thanking everyone who formed part of this memorable day, especially his “perfect” James.
This is the second marriage for Lord Ivar who had married Penelope “Penny” Vere Thompson in 1994, with whom he had three children, now aged between 15 and 22. The couple divorced in 2011 and, five years later, the royal came out as gay. The whole family was present for this weekend’s ceremony and Lord Ivar even thanked his “3 gorgeous girls for being so understanding and supportive” in his Insta post. And who walked the Queen’s cousin down the aisle? His ex-wife, Penny, of course!
Talk about a happy ending!
