Birthday wishes are in order for Prince William and Kate Middleton’s only daughter, Princess Charlotte who turns six today!

On 2nd May 2015, Princess Charlotte Elizabeth Diana was born in Lindo Wing at St Mary’s Hospital in London, becoming the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s second child. Princess Charlotte is now fourth in line of succession to the British throne.

Her middle names are tributed to her great-grandmother, Queen Elizabeth and her late grandmother, Lady Diana. She is reportedly also affectionately called ‘Lottie’ and ‘Mignonette’ by her parents.

On 5th July that same year, Princess Charlotte was christened by the Archbishop of Canterbury at St Mary Magdalene Church at Sandringham. She wore the ceremonial royal christening gown that has been worn by many royal families before her.

Thanks to the Crown Act implemented in 2013, Princess Charlotte did not move down the succession line when her younger brother Prince Louis was born. Before the act’s implementation, the succession to the throne heavily favoured princes meaning younger brothers were closer to the throne than their older sisters. Once passed, Princess Charlotte became the first British princess to rank above a brother in succession to the throne.
