Prince Harry is not due to become a father until April, but he may be getting a bit of advance practice with his cousin Zara Tindall’s youngest, Lena Elizabeth.
Zara, the daughter of Princess Anne and Captain Mark Phillips, made Harry godfather to her nine-month old baby at her christening at St Nicholas Church in Cherington, Gloucestershire.
Lena Elizabeth is the second daughter of Zara and former England rugby player, Mike Tindall.
Harry was joined at the modest ceremony by his heavily-pregnant wife, Meghan, the Duchess of Sussex, whose enormous bump has prompted speculation that she may be having twins. The christening was also attended by the Queen, who served as a namesake for the baby.
As Meghan’s due date approaches, rumours have been flying left and right about who will be chosen to be Harry and Meghan’s baby’s godparents. The tradition for royal babies used to be to select elderly or foreign relatives for the role of godparents but Harry and Meghan will probably buck tradition, as William and Kate did before them, and opt for friends over family.
Royal infants usually have more than the standard number of godparents – Harry himself had six, back in 1984. As for the Duke and Duchess of Cambridge’s children, future king Prince George has seven, Prince Louis has six, and Princess Charlotte has five.
So if it’s true that Meghan is having twins, the number of godparents could easily go into the double-digits!
We’ll just have to wait and see.
