Orange is the New Black’s Samira Wiley & Lauren Morelli are Engaged

Wiley took to Instagram to share a snap of her stunning engagement ring, simply captioned ‘Yes.’

Actress Samira Wiley announced her engagement to Orange Is The New Black writer Lauren Morelli on Instagram yesterday. The star, who plays Poussey Washington on the same hit Netflix series, is seen beaming with Morelli while flashing a gorgeous engagement ring in the photo, which she simply captioned ‘Yes.’

The couple started dating in 2014 following Morelli’s split from her husband of two years, Steve Basilone. She publicly came out in a heartfelt essay published in May 2014, in which she wrote that she realised she was gay on one of her first days on the set of Orange Is The New Black in 2012.

“It wasn't so much one thing, but the sum of many small details: how uncomfortable I felt around groups of lesbians or how I considered myself (shrug) a 'not very sexual person,’” explained Lauren.

“When considered alone, these seemed like little quirks that made me ‘me’. Wanting to read a book instead of have sex is a perfectly reasonable preference to have, right? But on set, these small moments came into sharp relief, and I found myself answering to an endless stream of cast members who peppered me with questions like a gaggle of kindergarteners curious about their new teacher. ‘Are you dating anyone?’ ‘You're married?’ ‘To a man?’ ‘But you used to kiss girls?’ ‘Do you miss it?’ I was finally forced to consider a question that had never, ever occurred to me before: ‘Holy s***, am I gay?’”
