‘Tis the season to be jolly! We’re taking a look back at some of the British royal family’s Christmas cards through the years. From 1957 up to more recent years, here are some of the members’ best moments!

Cambridges, 2021

This year the Royal family went for something a little different for their Christmas card. The whole family sported perfectly coordinated summer clothes given that the setting was a slight contrast to their usual UK backdrop as this year's photo was taken in Jordan. All donning beautiful smiles from ear to ear and the children looking all grown up.

For last year’s Christmas card, the Cambridges posed on a vintage motorbike and sidecar, beaming with joy. Their card was actually leaked by a Royal Air Force member who received the card from the Duchess herself, who is a patron of the RAF.

Sussexes, 2019

The Sussexes’ second Christmas card featured their then-seven-month-old son, Archie who seemed to be very much interested in the camera! He parents can be seen laughing in the background as their son crawled towards the camera.

Prince William and Kate Middleton’s 2018 Christmas card showed off their family-of-five for the first time, after their youngest, Prince Louis, was born earlier that year in May. The photo features them outside their home in Norfolk under some trees.

For their first card as a married couple, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle chose a previously unreleased shot from their May wedding that same year. The couple can be seen embracing as they watch the fireworks. So romantic!

Queen Elizabeth and Prince Philip, 1990

The Queen’s and Prince Philips 1990 Christmas card had a more relaxed vibe to it, even featuring one of their pups! The couple can be seen sitting outside next to a flower bush, presumably chatting.

Queen Elizabeth and the Duke of Edinburgh, 1989

The year before, the royal couple’s card was a tad more formal which featured them in a carriage while visiting Sark, Guernsey.

Featuring the then-four-year-old Prince Edward front and centre, Queen Elizabeth, Prince Philip and their children opted to pose by a boat all dolled up for their 1969 Christmas card.

This was the royal family’s first Christmas card as a family-of-six! Here, one-year-old Prince Edward poses in his pram alongside his siblings Prince Charles, Princess Anne and Prince Andrew.

In 1957, the royal family was just a family-of-four with Charles being nine years of age and Princess Anne, seven. The family pose under a tree along with two of their dogs.
