Today is a bittersweet day for Cliff Zammit Stevens and his family, who celebrate his late mum’s birthday. Every year, the opera singer posts a tribute to his loving mother, and this year was no different.
“Happy birthday to my angel. Really, I like to think that you were an angel on earth. You were the most caring, loving, selfless and kind person that I have ever known,” Cliff starts off in a touching tribute to his late mother, Marcelline.
“You left an impact on everyone’s life that you came in contact with. There was not a person in this world that could say you were anything other than an absolutely beautiful soul. You were my mom, but you were also so much more. You were my best friend. You were my confident. You were the person who knew exactly what to do or say when everything in life was a mess.”
“You were everything to me. You were the greatest person I have ever known and still the most important person in my life. There has not been, nor will there ever be, someone that will take your place. You are everything and more to me and for that, I am the luckiest son in this world,” he continues, captioning a sweet photo of the two of them.
“How lucky am I to say that my mum was an angel while on this earth and is now, my angel in heaven? How lucky am I to say that my mum was genuinely the greatest person? How lucky am I to say that my mum was also my best friend? I am so lucky. The absolute luckiest.”
“And even though our time on earth got cut short; I will never stop loving you, I will never stop missing you, I will never stop making you proud and I will never stop being grateful that you got to be my mum. Every day is a day closer to seeing you again, but until then, I will live this life for you, my angel.”
Since her passing, Cliff has set up The Marcy Foundation which is “here to #breakthesilence and aid people in seeking the help they deserve,” the website says. “My mother never judged anyone, instead she went out of her way to help anyone who needed help. For this reason, I have decided to carry on her way of being by founding a foundation that creates awareness about subjects that are stigmatized.”
