In last night’s Budget for 2019, Government announced that rebates for wedding expenses are to increase by €250 – therefore couples can now receive a maximum return of €2,000. Each expense of the wedding function has a capped amount.

In the Budget for 2018, applicants received up to 13.04 per cent of their expenses, the maximum being a refund of €1,747.

The form to apply for the tax rebate must be filled in up to 6 months after the wedding ceremony.

The original fiscal receipts/invoices and relevant documentation need to be kept by the applicant for a period of not less than 2 years from the date of application, and produced upon request to the Commissioner for Revenue for verification.

The grant payment will then be deposited in the bank account indicated on the application form.
