Maltese songstress Christabelle Borg has taken to Instagram to talk about the struggles of long-distance relationships. Christabelle married long-time love, doctor and waterpolo player Jordan Camilleri last September, but it hasn’t been all sunshine and rainbows.

A few months before their stunning wedding, Jordan was at the European Championships in Barcelona when he called up his soon-to-be wife to tell her he had been offered a professional contract with AS Roma playing in A1 Italy, one of the best leagues in the world.

“At that moment I started crying both tears of happiness and tears of sadness too, thinking ‘how would our marriage survive living apart?’ My job didn’t allow me to pack my bags and leave. We made a decision together that he would put his medical career on hold for a year to pursue one of his lifetime dreams. He left a week before the wedding, came back down a day before and left again two hours after our wedding reception ended.”

Christabelle would travel to Rome every fortnight to visit Jordan for 36 hours, but being without her husband just a few weeks into their marriage was definitely a struggle. But, she says, things do get better in the long run.

“It got a bit easier at times and became more difficult in others. Jordan is now back in Malta after an extremely successful season with AS Roma, and our love has survived this long-distance marriage. As Jordan always says, as long as we have each other, we’ll weather any storm. I will support my husband forever till God gives me the energy and the courage to do so, as does he.”
