In a series of Instagram stories, Kristina answered one frequently asked question: “What was the hardest thing for you when you became a mum?” Her reply is instantaneous: “the lack of sleep.” Ben reveals that he would ask her how she’d be doing throughout the day and Kristina jokes that her only answer would be a tense: “I don’t know!” Follow up questions from Ben would also receive a similar answer. “It was a really difficult time for us,” confirms Ben, adding that this period clashed with his commitments on the first season of X factor Malta: “I couldn’t be as hands on then as I’m able to be now,” he says.

Xtina candidly opens up about her experience in a separate story: “When I gave birth to Elle I went through a really tough 8 weeks like mentally and physically to talk about my negativity,” she narrates, adding that after a happy and amazing pregnancy she was caught off guard by the sudden change in her usually-positive outlook. “I spent the first 8 weeks like really bad, like crying, the lack of sleep just killed me, and I was up every hour feeding her,” Xtina confirms.

Xtina continues that: “ my point is that in the beginning I was telling myself when I heal, Kris when you heal, I was brainwashing myself, which I do when I’m in a negative or tough time, when you heal you’re never going to feel this again, like that’s it I’m definitely not having anymore kids,” she explains. However, her situation improved drastically after the first two months and changed her mind soon after.

The brave mother explains that while she was lucky to have had several mother friends to share these thoughts and emotions with, she hoped that by sharing her experience publicly it would help mummies who weren’t as lucky: “Just push, the beginning is tough, but then it gets better, it literally gets better every month. My message: you can do it mummies,” Xtina insists.

Thanks for sharing Ben and Xtina!
