No matter how beautiful your dress is or how perfect your makeup looks on your big day, if you’re having a bad hair day, you’re not going to be a happy bride. Here are 8 hair problems to pre-empt for your wedding day.

1. Lovely and long

It’s true that long hair is versatile and can be transformed into different gorgeous styles. But, without the right care and maintenance, you run the risk of having damaged and unhealthy-looking hair. If you’re bent on long locks, go for a regular trim and use protein-based treatments to keep those split-ends at bay.

2. Last minute chop

A last minute snip is a big no-no! You want a fresh new look for your wedding, but a couple of days before the big day isn’t the best idea. While your hair needs a regular trim every now and then, a whole new look is a little risky. Give yourself enough time to grow your hair out in case you hate your last hair cut!

3. Frying your hair

If you’re a regular user of heat styling tools, you might want to tone down on using them in the months before your big day. High temperatures can make your hair susceptible to split ends and rough texture which will result in a frizzy look. In case you need to use them, don’t forget to spritz on some heat protectant spray.

4. Not having a back-up plan

A professional stylist is unlikely to leave you hanging but things can suddenly happen. While some make-up artists know their way around the hair department, it’s always best to stash some pins, a bottle of hair spray and hair ties in your emergency bag in case you can’t get a replacement.

5. Consider the weather

The weather is one thing we don’t have control over. Just as important as picking a hairstyle that compliments your facial features and your dress, is choosing a hairstyle that will last from the reception to the early hours of the after-party. Especially if you’re getting married outdoors, the humidity might cause your hair to frizz, so wearing it up will solve all your problems.

6. Going unprepared to your hair trial

Before heading to your hair trial months before your wedding, make sure you go prepared with a number of different styles you’d like. This will give the stylist an idea of the look you’re going for and can experiment accordingly. Your trial needs to be at least a month prior to tying the knot, which will give you plenty of time to make any adjustments.

7. Skimping on quality products

Investing in quality hair care products to your specific hair type is essential. You can get away with making your own body scrubs at home or using coconut oil as a moisturiser, but when it comes to your hair, abusing it with harsh products isn’t going to do you any favours!

8. Letting your hair colour fall flat

Your wedding photos are forever, so investing in the expertise of a hair stylist is the best way to go. Give your hair a make-over and get dimensional colour to give your hair the desired style and texture – the kind of results that can’t be achieved from a DIY packet.
