The Best Wedding Trends 2017 Has Offered So Far

Keep calm, we’re still 6 months away from the New Year, but 2017 has offered us plenty of gorgeous wedding trends already! Get them all in one place.

Colours over neutrals

After dominating the world of weddings, neutral colours have paved the way for bright colours, or colour pairings, that are vibrant and earthy. The main one is Greenery, which is Pantone’s Colour of the Year for 2017. The lively yet calming hue is perfect for all seasons – it’s fresh, symbolic in its reference to nature and the outdoors, and a little out of the ordinary for a wedding colour, which makes it that much more exiting and special.

Soft silhouettes

Airy skirts and wind-swept silhouettes with lush, ethereal fabrics, the likes of soft tulle and organza, replaced form-fitting designs in this year’s spring/summer collections, suitable for the bride and her bridal party. Ideal for a destination wedding or even as a second dress for the bride, detachable skirts, off-shoulder dresses and lots of floral embellishments are all the rage.

Metallic details

Copper, rose gold and silver are versatile metallic colours that can be adapted to any style of wedding, and almost never get old. They’re a timeless option for wedding décor, but use them wisely – too much shine could kill the classiness of your venue and detract attention from all the other details you painstakingly chose for your big day. For table linens, for instance, rather than using metallic tablecloths throughout the whole venue, save them for the main displays, such as the cake and guestbook tables. Bridal runways were filled with shimmery gowns too, making gold or silver a current choice for bridal party wear.

Turn up the tech

Lights can make all the difference between an ordinary and extraordinary wedding venue. While the more affordable light options such as fairy lights and white lanterns will never cease to be effective, vivid and high-tech lighting techniques are starting to gain popularity, which means that they’ll soon become more affordable. Some of these include pattern projection, hanging lights and gobos, the latter being stencils that, when light passes through them, are projected as images onto a surface, such as the couple’s initials.

Translucent cakes

Remember naked cakes, the ones with a slick of buttercream between layers? They’re being replaced by the slightly more modest translucent cake, which is the latest development in the sphere of wedding desserts. Not fully frosted but not quite as bare, the almost-naked cake is a balance between the two and an ideal choice for those couples whose wedding planning choices are a little less traditional. Instead of completely bare tiers, translucent cakes have a thin layer of frosting with a hint of cake showing underneath, and are typically topped with fresh fruit and flowers for decoration.

Customised invites

Wedding invites are no longer limited to black or gold calligraphy on cream paper – there’s a world of options available, and better still, a limitless variety of stationery to customise your wedding correspondence. From Plexiglas invites and foil stamping to glow-in-the-dark ink and bespoke illustrations, there are many ways to communicate your message in a way that best reflects your personality as well as your partner’s.

Nature-inspired décor

Wedding décor trends are increasingly turning to nature for a healthy dose of inspiration. If your wedding venue is limited to indoors for whatever reason, bring the outdoors in with potted trees, hanging greenery, wooden accents and propped up bouquets all around the venue. Add touches of nature to various other aspects of the wedding too, such as the groom’s boutonniere, the flower girls’ head pieces as well as the bride’s and bridal party’s bouquets, with wild and colourful floral combinations that make the entire wedding feel like one big spring-time party.

Grand entrances or getaways

Who needs a car when you can use a horse? Grand exits, or entrances if you prefer, are replacing the good old send-off in an old and battered car. Use a motorcycle if you know how to drive one, a horse-drawn carriage, a show-stopping classic car, a boat if your wedding is by the water, or a helicopter if your budget permits. Anything that is grand and a little out of the ordinary will do, so get creative.

Venue hunting

Couples are increasingly opting for venues that are not an obvious choice, giving grand palazzos and lush gardens a run for their money. Think historic houses, open-air spaces, intimate villas, vineyards and other immersive experiences which couples want their guests to revel in. It’s not just about having a wedding, but about taking guests on a memorable journey which they’ll likely never forget.
