Last Friday, on Christmas Day, a total of 11 babies were born in Malta: six girls and five boys. The first of them was a boy born at 2am, while the last was another boy born at 11pm.

According to information issued by the Directorate for Information and Health Research, 2018 was a record year for our islands, with 16 babies being born that year, while 2006 was the year that saw the least births in the past 20 years.

Between 2014 and 2019 the average number of babies born on Christmas Day increased, with many of the mothers being over the age of 30.
