Pete Buttigieg, 19th Secretary of Transportation for the United States Department of Transportation, has given the lowdown of what it’s like to be a new dad to twins.

A month into this life-changing endeavor, Pete shared how life has changed whilst juggling a marriage, a demanding day job and two gorgeous twins, during an interview with Morning Joe. And yes, if you were wondering, our friends in the US are still struggling to say the Maltese surname.

On September 4th 2021, Pete and his husband Chasten Buttigieg welcomed the new additions to their family, marking the occasion with a Twitter post with the caption, ‘We are delighted to welcome Penelope Rose and Joseph August Buttigieg to our family.’ The black and white photo shows off their undeniable smiles from ear to ear as they held their newborns.

After all the firsts and fights to get to the position he’s at, you’d think that parenting would be a walk in the park for the former mayor of South Bend, Indiana, who is also the first openly gay Cabinet secretary, but, Pete amitted with a smile "it's the most demanding thing I think I've ever done, that Chasten and I have ever taken on. It's just amazing." He may be referring to the 5am wake-up calls, or as he puts it, nap time if he’s lucky.

Both work as a team and smile their way through as Pete says “It's been wonderful. It's everything people tell you to expect and more. I think the biggest thing that has surprised me is just how much joy there is even sometimes in the hard parts,” and continues “yet I catch myself grinning half the time.”

We are sure these two are superheroes for dads and are enjoying every moment!
