5 Real Couples Share their Funniest Wedding Stories
It could happen to anyone really!
1. IS IT JOHN? OR JEREMY? OR PAUL?
“The preparations for the wedding were extremely stressful, but out of all the things which could have wrong, we weren’t prepared for this. On the day, as we’re standing in front of the altar, our priest starts the celebration but gets my husband’s name wrong! We correct him. He apologises. And then he does it again. And again. He got it right towards the end, but that didn’t stop the sniggering at the back! We see the funny side now.” Melanie.
2. A CASE OF MISTAKEN IDENTITY
“During the reception, my dad brought out the papers for his wedding speech, only to realize that he had brought some office papers by mistake. He turned white and started sweating with nerves, and eventually my brother saved him by finding the speech on his mobile. I noticed though with mum’s laughter and dad looking even more nervous.” Sharon.
3. CURIOUS KIDS
“My young 3-year-old niece was flower girl at our wedding and she was meant to walk down the aisle with her older cousin. We were a bit worried about whether anything would go wrong – with kids you never know – so we breathed a sigh of relief when they arrived next to their parents in the pew. But, throughout the entire ceremony, everyone could hear my niece ask in a very loud voice ‘What’s aunty doing?’, ‘But why?’ ‘Why they are doing that?’. I don’t know what was funniest – her insistent questioning or my sister’s desperate attempts to shush her.” Rachel.
4. HMM…THEY DON’T LOOK THE SAME…
“Ok, so this didn’t happen at our wedding, but a few months before our big day, we were invited to the wedding of a colleague of my husband’s. I had met this colleague and his wife a few times before, but I can’t say we were close friends. We were a bit late – as always – and rushed into the reception hall and grabbed a drink. We looked around trying to find the very small group of friends we knew would be there but couldn’t find anyone. Half an hour later, I went to the bathroom, which was close to the entrance of the hallway, and happened to pass a huge framed photo of the couple. And it wasn’t the people we knew. We were at the wrong wedding! I rushed to tell my husband who had actually met someone he had been at school with. Needless to say, we flew out of there to try and make it to the actual wedding to which we had actually been invited to!” Daniela.
5. LAST ONES STANDING
“We forgot the ‘going away ceremony’! We were having such a fantastic time at our wedding, we actually were the last ones to leave. We said bye to everyone and then slumped on a couple of chairs having a last drink.” Julie.
