2017’s Top Engagement Ring Trends & What to Look Out For in 2018

Great trends – like all good marriages – were made to last. But which of 2017’s top engagement ring styles will last the course, and what lies in store for the new wedding season?

1. ROSE GOLD

The metal was everywhere last year, and it’s set to retain its stronghold as the most popular – and classy – hue for engagement rings (or even wedding rings). Inject some old-school feminine charm by opting for intricate designs and clustered diamonds.

2. COLOURED GEMS

Sapphires, rubies and emeralds stunned in 2017 and will continue to do so this year. Your hands will never look drab again with this pop of colour. Choose a stone which encapsulates your taste and style, and opt for a wedding ring which will also do it justice.

3. VINTAGE-INSPIRED DESIGNS

Edwardian and Victorian designs have been ‘in’ for a few years now and, while they may not be for everyone, the style will continue to make top ten lists in 2018. Whether you’re lucky enough to find the real-deal or not, many contemporary jewellery designers have also adopted the trend in their creations, so your loved one won’t have to look far to find something you love.

4. PEAR-SHAPED

This feminine shape is here to stay. Flattering and eye-catching, the tapered cut of pear-shaped engagement rings elongates and slims the finger, while being modern and fashion-forward at the same time.

5. OVAL

The shape of 2018, the oval-cut engagement ring is a more classic alternative to the pear-shaped diamond ring. Tying in with all-things-vintage, this shape harks back to a more romantic past and promises love for the future.

6. THE OPEN RING

This ring style – destined to be popular this year - gives you two, or even three, for the price of one. While this may be the most idiosyncratic engagement ring style currently doing the rounds, it will be popular with all fashionistas who crave something unique, but timeless.

7. EAST-WEST SETTING

With oval and pear-shaped rings currently ruling the roost of engagement band styles, designers have started to experiment with the positioning of the stone. Placing the gem horizontally (also called an east-west setting) has given a new perspective on the traditional, imbuing it with a crisp, glamourous quality.

8. STACKING BANDS

Mixing and matching different ring styles has, in the past, been the purview of Boho brides, but this look is now heading for the mainstream. Personalize your rings by choosing a set of bands which cater to each different facet of your personality. One thing is for sure – you’ll never be bored!
