10 Iconic Weddings of Some of the Best Musicians of all Time

10 Iconic Weddings of Some of the Best Musicians of all Time

Not all weddings are destined to last forever – some less than others. But whether these 10 marriages stood the test of time or not, they’ll still be remembered forever.

Priscilla & Elvis Presley

The king of rock and roll wed Priscilla Beaulieu in 1967 with a ceremony in Las Vegas at the Aladdin Hotel. The wedding party reportedly flew to Vegas in Frank Sinatra’s private jet, and the couple were the picture of perfection for a 60s wedding – the bride wore a bouffant hair do with a simple white gown and three pairs of false eyelashes, while the groom wore a paisley silk brocade tux and cow boy boots. The Presleys had a daughter, Lisa Marie, and divorced in 1973.

June Carter & Johnny Cash

It was a case of third time lucky for June Carter. Johnny Cash, who would be Carter’s third husband, proposed to her during a live performance, after several attempts on Cash’s behalf. The couple married one week after getting engaged in 1968 at the Methodist Church in Franklin, Kentucky, and remained together until Carter’s death in 2013. Johnny Cash died four months after his wife.

Linda Eastman & Paul McCartney

All of The Beatles’ weddings were as high-profile as they come, especially Linda and Paul McCartney’s, which, despite attempts to keep it private, attracted lots of attention after the couple married in a courthouse ceremony in March 1969 in London, before heading to St John’s Wood Church for a formal blessing of their union. The couple were married for 29 years, until Linda’s death in 1998 at the age of 56.

Yoko Ono & John Lennon

Yoko Ono and John Lennon married one week after the McCartneys, and their 10-minute wedding in March 1969 provided one of the most iconic wedding photos of all time. The couple got married in Gibraltar in a private ceremony, and for their honeymoon, they famously staged a ‘Bed-In’ for peace. The couple were married until Lennon’s untimely death in 1980.

Cher & Gregg Allman

Before the ink had even dried on her divorce papers from Sonny Bono, Cher flew to Las Vegas (where else?), to marry southern rocker Gregg Allman in 1975. Their marriage was as fast-tracked as their relationship – between 1975 and 1977, they met, married, divorced, re-married, had a son, made an album together and parted ways for good, according to Rolling Stone.

Bianca & Mick Jagger

Rolling Stones frontman Mick Jagger married Bianca Perez-Mora Macias in a ceremony in St Tropez, France, in a widely-photographed and somewhat disorganised wedding in 1971. The couple encountered many obstacles that day, namely when they discovered on the morning of their wedding that before the church ceremony, there had to be a civil ceremony at the town hall which was open for all to attend, including a tonne of paparazzi. Bianca’s unforgettable wedding suit was far more memorable than her marriage, which ended in 1978.

The British model was previously married to The Beatles band member George Harrison, who she divorced in 1977 before moving on to another music legend, Eric Clapton who was also close friends with Harrison. They tied the knot in 1979 and celebrated with a reception in Clapton’s garden at home two months later. This marriage also didn’t last though, and the two parted ways in 1988.

Ringo Starr & Barbara Bach

Ringo Starr, The Beatles’ famous drummer, married model, actress and Bond girl Barbara Bach in 1981 in a civil ceremony at Marylebone Register Office in London. Bach had two children from a previous marriage, and she and Starr are still married today, 37 years after tying the knot.

David Bowie & Iman

David Bowie reportedly met Iman Abdulmajid on a blind date in 1990, and it was a case of love at first sight. Bowie propose to the supermodel during a boat trip in Paris, and married in 1992 in Lausanne, Switzerland. The groom donned an uncharacteristically traditional, smart tux for the occasion, while Iman looked incredible in a white gown with long gloves and flowing locks. The pair were married until Bowie’s death in 2016.

Whitney Houston & Bobby Brown

The marriage of Whitney Houston and Bobby Brown in 1992 was another that raised eyebrows – he was a ‘bad boy’ from Boston while she was America’s pop princess with a squeaky clean image, until it became clear soon after their wedding that they both struggled with addiction, which ultimately claimed Houston’s life. The couple were the picture of happiness on their wedding day, with Houston wearing a high-neck gown by Marc Bouwer, but parted ways in 2007. The couple had a daughter together, Bobbi Kristina, who died tragically three years after her mother in 2015.
